This Christmas once again, the main street of of Rochester, Michigan becomes the home of the annual 'The Big Bright Light Show' when the buildings downtown are covered in more than 1.5 million points of glimmering holiday lights.

People young and young-at-heart were admiring the lighting braving the bitter cold (20F), while a few were finishing their last minute shopping or singing christmas carols. Some others were having a good time at their dinner table or were quietly enjoying their drink.

As I looked around I began to wonder: Is this the true spirit of christmas or is it what Wilfred A. Peterson said in The Art of Living: "Christmas is not in tinsel and lights and outward show. The secret lies in an inner glow. It's lighting a fire inside the heart. Good will and joy a vital part. It's higher thought and a greater plan. It's glorious dream in the soul of man."  The latter indeed. Merry Christmas!

Fun with fotos (Dec 18, 2010)

Here are some useful tips on how to bring out the Andy Warhol in you.

You could take the effort to layer in the silkscreen technique in Adobe Photoshop.

But in these hurried times, why bother?

Here's the "Big Huge Labs" cool site (free of course!) that helps you create the Warhol effect in minutes. The image used here is a creative commons picture of President Obama. Enjoy!

Weekly freebie by Fotochoice.com (Dec 16, 2010)

Port Douglas, Australia
At the end of a wonderful day at the Great Barrier Reef I wanted to retire for the day. But the seaside port of Port Douglas was too beautiful to pass. So we wandered through the village and reached the water front. It was getting dark and what took place was truly fascinating!! A storm was brewing nearby; the sun played hide and seek with the clouds; the sunset sky changed its hue to different shades of gray.

As I clicked away my wife reminded me of Rabindranath Tagore's lines "Clouds come floating into my life no longer to carry rain or usher storm but to add color to my sunset sky".

This image was shot with a Canon 5D at f22, 1/15th sec exposure.

Weekly freebie by Fotochoice.com (Dec 08, 2010)

It had rained most of the morning confining me indoors. When it finally stopped, I walked through my garden with my macro lens. As I clicked away at the roses my wife lovingly tends to year after year, I was reminded of the poetic words William Carlos William had written:
"A profusion of pink roses bending ragged in the rain speaks to me of all gentleness and its enduring".
